"Bodies flow, rhythms grow
Into magic melodies
of transformative threads
Weaving in and out of hearts
Pulsing in the same pocket of power
Actions of grace sparking and igniting
The passion of who we are called to be"

Nadine teaches the ecstatic dance movement work of Gabrielle Roth (WavesTM, Sweat Your PrayersTM, The 5RhythmsTM). Not only is she one of the few trained by Gabrielle herself to teach this incredible shamanic work, but has embodied the practice and lives it. I'm honored to accompany her (along with percussionists Glen Fittin and Yael Shacham) and our connection is deep.

I remember helping sweep the floor for a class she was hosting (she was not yet teaching but in training) at Nature's Friends Farm (I'm venturing to say around 1996), and mentioning to her that I'd love to try working with her in the context of Gabrielle's work. I had been to a class with Gabrielle herself (who I found to be a powerful and sensitive shaman) that Nadine hosted. My longtime djembe teacher, Sanga-of-the-Valley, had been and still is, Gabrielle's right hand drummer and percussionist, both live at workshops and recorded. I read Maps to Ecstasy around the time when I was discovering West African drumming and dance, when I was looking for alternative expressions of movement coming from a western dance background myself.

About Waves -
The 5RhythmsTM ecstatic dance practice has been developed by Gabrielle Roth, author of, Maps to Ecstasy and Sweat Your Prayers, over a lifetime of study in dance, theater and the healing arts.

This cathartic form of ecstatic dance is a workout for body and soul, a moving meditation, a spiritual practice where we sweat our prayers. It is for elders and young people, passionate dancers and reserved toe-tappers, people who like to show off and people who can barely show up, survivors of bad backs, bum knees or broken hearts.

The only goals are moving until we are moved, finding the still point within and becoming free spirits once again. Come together to dance & sweat!
